Greenwich Village Halloween Parade 2000

Homo Amoeba

sketch2000
One of the most pivotal moments in evolution was the beginning of life itself. Drama of Works presented six one-celled organisms (protozoan, if you will) that danced down sixth avenue on All Hallows Eve. These creatures periodically experience mitosis, osmosis, and as many other "osises" as was possible. The choreography also included each cell coming together to take on the form of a human and then graciously disassembling to float on their own again.

The puppets were made from light see-through material decorated with the natural markings of our single-celled friends. The shell, filled with clear helium balloons was operated by the puppeteers via heavy duty fishing line. Watch a clip from the Sci-Fi Channel's Coverage of the parade.
