Icarus

Icarus is Dorothy's talking companion and acts as a conscious of sorts on her travels to University. While his intentions are well, sometimes his self-centeredness gets in the way of Dorothy's goal.

Icarus was designed and made by David Michael Friend out of mostly found objects: a caster head, lamp parts, ornamental decor from a chester drawer, a dismanteled feather duster, and chains taken from genuine New York art school tables.

By turning the white lever in the foreground, the puppeteer is able to "fly" Icarus via strings attached to the wings. The head is also turnable through a pulley system around the caster head.
